10 months on from the release of his first studio album, Sam Smith has stormed the charts Worldwide and has fast become one of the most heavily decorated artists of 2015 with four Grammy awards and two BRIT awards, including Best New Artist, Song of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album.
‘In The Lonely Hour’ reached number one in six Countries album charts, and reached the top five in 18 Countries album charts, showing the English superstar had no trouble rising to fame.
It is rare to look at an album cover these days and see that the artist themselves has written every song on the album, and this is what makes Sam Smith’s album such a wondrous piece of work to listen to. The lyrics of each song on the album serves a purpose and gives the audience a sense of what life might be like for the artist.
Hit songs ‘Money on my mind’, ‘Stay with me’ and ‘Like I Can’ feature on the award winning album, but it is some of the tracks which were not released as singles which prove to be the hidden gems of this album. ‘Life Support’ the eighth track on the album is perfect easy listening and the alternating notes of Sam’s voice is pitch perfect, capable of giving the listener a warm feeling inside.
For those in possession of the Deluxe Edition of this album, a different musical experience can be heard. La La La with Naughty Boy features as a bonus track, along with Restart, offering a more upbeat pop element. This album cannot be faulted, with the perfect mix of Pop, R&B and Soul that is suited to easy listening, anytime and anywhere.
Hats off to Mr.Smith
